My nails are short but that is not because I chew them or anything. I just like how neat and simple they look, plus they happen to be extremely low maintenance. That said, I had always wondered what long nails would look on my hands and I got my chance when I received a gift certificate for acrylic nails! I was so excited because they were pricy and I could never afford to have them done if it weren’t for the GC.
A week after I got the GC, I went to the salon to have my nails done. I understood that they take some time so I made sure my afternoon was free. After a couple of hours, I finally had long nails which I had done up in French tips. Let me tell you, they looked fabulous! I enjoyed looking at them but later in the day, I realized that maybe, just maybe, they weren’t such a good idea.
My Thoughts on Acrylic Nails
There is no denying that acrylic nails look glam but I have seen some that looked, well, costume-y and they are so not for me. My nails weren’t that long so they weren’t too shocking but people at home still noticed them. I liked getting compliments but after a while, the novelty wore off and they got in the way a lot! The simple task of fixing my hair or just tying my shoes became so foreign and strange that I just wanted to rip off the fake nails.
Another thing I noticed was that after a couple of weeks, they started to look grubby and I took that as a sign that I needed to visit the salon again for a touch-up, only I had no money so that’s that.
Yes or No?
The question of whether or not you should get acrylic nails depends entirely on you. If you are comfortable with them and like how they look, by all means go for them. Just make sure you have the time and money to get them retouched every now and then so they do not look grubby.
I whole heartedly agree with this assessment of acrylic nails. They are just not for me. They look so nice on others as long as they aren’t so long they look like claws!and are not so cluttered with different artwork on each nail.
