While we all know Melissa McCarthy sure can make us laugh, not everyone knew she had a secret eye for fashion. However, with the release of her very own clothing brand, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, she’s showing us all now—and stirring up some silly habits of the fashion world while she’s at it.
It turns out McCarthy originally moved from her hometown of Plainfield, Illinois to the big city of New York not to pursue dreams of being an Oscar-nominated actress and comedian, but to be a fashion designer. It was while she was attend the Fashion Institute of Technology that she first decided to give stand-up and then later improve a try, leading her to her new career. So it’s been a long time coming, but Melissa is finally now getting to put on her designer hat!
Seven7 is a brand for every woman, no matter her size. Offering a size 4 to 16 range, a size 14 to 28 range, and an 1X to 4X range, McCarthy’s focus is making sure women of all sizes have well-made, trendy, and figure flattering options. In doing so, she’s taking on what she sees as a lack of fashionable options for so-called ‘plus-sized’ women, stating that “The quality and construction is often so bad…Plus-sized clothes are often really cheap and either look young or incredibly old.”
She has a real vision of the women she wants wearing her brand, and the only requirement is good taste! McCarthy says that “Our woman is not defined by age, size or occupation. She has personality and isn’t afraid to show it,” adding that she’s “been every size on the planet, and I know for a fact that I didn’t lose my sense of style just because I went above a size 12.”
Her line, which pays close attention to clever design features that are both flattering and comfortable, is available now on HSN.com and will be making its way to Nordstrom.com, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Von Maur and Lane Bryant, just to name a few retailers. Seven7 will also be available at melissamccarthy.com. Now that’s something to smile about.
