No matter how long or short your flight is, your skin will no doubt suffer the effects of the airplane environment. For a lot of us, our skin will end up a strange combination of flaky and greasy. It is not a pleasant effect! There are a few things you can do to help your skin through this unfriendly visit to the skies.
- Moisturize ahead of time! Add extra moisturizer and extra conditioner to your skin and hair before you even board the plane. A little bit of prevention can save you in the long run.
- Moisturize during! Are you sensing a theme yet? Make sure to carry a portable moisturizer with you so that you are prepared to combat the drying effects of that cabin. I like to travel with a lip balm stick and a lotion bar. Neither of them have to go into my 3-1-1 bag and they will help handle almost any dryness I encounter. After I use the lotion stick on my hands and cuticles, I even run my palms over my hair to take care of the fly-away hairs!
- Drink water! Okay, so this one is basically moisturizing from the inside out. If you can, try to avoid anything containing alcohol or caffeine since those ingredients only worsen the effects of the dehydration.
- To the extreme! I have yet to see this on a plane myself, but some people are recommending that you fly with one of the popular sheet masks, and apply it during your flight. I completely understand this thinking, but I don’t think I am brave enough to try it. Perhaps a nice gel mask instead, so that you draw less attention to your skincare treatment.
Now you’re on the glow!
